Mechanical Reduction

Mechanical processing or reduction of materials is the processes by which a large object is reduced in size to become a nanoscale object. This category includes naturally occurring materials that can be mined, purified and sized as well as chemicals that are manufactured and then reduced to have nanoscale dimensions. Techniques include grinding, milling, and crushing; this category is most closely related to "top-down" production.
