Description:

NanoGram uses proprietary equipment to develop new manufacturing processes that employ nanoparticles for a variety of specific applications with a focus on silicon nanoparticle synthesis and deposition. Their laser pyrolysis process can make 20 nm spherical silicon nanoparticles, as well as pre-doped nanoparticles, including n- and p-type semiconducting nanoparticles, because it can use up to two co-injected precursors in solution: gas, vapor, or aerosol. The process can also directly deposit a polycrystalline silicon film, with different dopants on each layer, on a glass or flexible substrate. This can be used for making crystalline solar cells directly from silane gas. NanoGram is aiming for the polycrystalline solar cell market, targeting cell conversion efficiencies in the mid-teens, while using one-fifth the silicon of the current wafering process. NanoGram expects to have an edge over PECVD-deposited amorphous silicon cells as well, due to higher efficiencies and deposition rates that are orders or magnitude faster.
